Many may have read this before but not seen it with this Light. We are going to look at Matthew 25:1-13 and pull it apart to look at the meaning of the parable within.
1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.
2 Five of them were foolish [thoughtless, silly, and careless], and five were wise [far-sighted, practical, and sensible]. 3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they did not take any [extra] oil with them, 4 but the wise took flasks of oil along with their lamps. 5 Now while the bridegroom was delayed, they all began to nod off, and they fell asleep. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! The bridegroom [is coming]! Go out to meet him.’ 7 Then all those virgins got up and put their own lamps in order [trimmed the wicks and added oil and lit them]. 8 But the foolish virgins said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, because our lamps are going out.’ 9 But the wise replied, ‘No, otherwise there will not be enough for us and for you, too; go instead to the dealers and buy oil for yourselves.’ 10 But while they were going away to buy oil, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut and locked. 11 Later the others also came, and said, ‘Lord, Lord, open [the door] for us.’ 12 But He replied, ‘I assure you and most solemnly say to you, I do not know you [we have no relationship].’ 13 Therefore, be on the alert [be prepared and ready], for you do not know the day nor the hour [when the Son of Man will come].
Virgins in scripture is a reference to the people of follow Yahuwah and do not have “relations” with others. In this sense they are pure and have set their heart upon a single person, that being Yahushua HaMashiach, who is the bridegroom in this section of scripture.
We will read of ten virgins and how they all have lamps. A lamp may be on or off. The lamp represents the commandments and the Light represents those who keep the commandments. Those who have the lamp (the commandments) may not necessarily keep the Law, either through misunderstanding, disbelief, or not knowing them, hence their lamp has gone out even though they have the law.
23 For the COMMANDMENTS are a LAMP, and the LAW is its LIGHT, And reproofs for instruction are the way of life,
The oil are those things which we are taught and learn. There are two oils. One which is a false oil and will not provide light, and another which it the true oil and does provide Light.
1 My son, be attentive to my wisdom [godly wisdom learned by costly experience],
Incline your ear to my understanding;
2 That you may exercise discrimination and discretion (good judgment),
And your lips may reserve knowledge and answer wisely [to temptation].
3 For the lips of an immoral woman drip honey [like a honeycomb]
AND HER SPEECH IS SMOOTHER THAN OIL,
4 But in the end she is bitter like [the extract of] WORMWOOD,
Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death;
Her steps take hold of Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead),
Wormwood is like a poisonous fruit. It is fed to those who do not follow His Laws. It represents those who do not follow His Law essentially rejecting Yahuwah. We read about wormwood in the trumpets of Revelation.
12 Who is the wise man who may understand this [without any doubt]? To whom has the mouth of Yahuwah spoken, so that he may declare it? Why is the land ruined, laid waste like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?
13 Then Yahuwah said, “Because they have turned away from My law which I set before them, and have not listened to and obeyed My voice nor walked in accordance with it,
14 but have walked stubbornly after their [own] heart and after the Baals, as their fathers taught them,”
15 therefore thus says Yahuwah of hosts, the Elohim of Israel, “behold, I will feed them, this people, with WORMWOOD and give them bitter and poisonous water to drink.
16 “I will [also] scatter them among nations that neither they nor their fathers have known, and I will send the sword after them until I have annihilated them.”
It was with this oil which we are anointed. e.g Exodus 35:28, Exodus 37:29. But the oil was to provide us with Light, which is His word.
e.g. Exodus 35:14, Exodus 35:28, Exodus 37:37
So if the women run out of Light, it represents them not knowing the word of Yahuwah and what it teaches. In fact in this parable, these women go back to … the merchants (!) to get more oil.
The Merchants lived and did business in the church.
12 And Yahushua entered the temple [grounds] and drove out [with force] all who were buying and selling [birds and animals for sacrifice] in the temple area, and He turned over the tables of the moneychangers [who made a profit exchanging foreign money for temple coinage] and the chairs of those who were selling doves [for sacrifice].
13 Yahshua said to them, “It is written [in Scripture], ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer’; but you are making it a robbers’ den.”
Interestingly we know that the church is one of the women in scripture. We have one who is pure and the other is a prostitute.
A prostitute is a self run business, who sells her own wares. Just what we saw happening here in Matthew.
So I pray that you see the Light He provides us with. I pray that your lamps are full of Oil. I pray that you keep watch looking for the Signs He provides us and do not remain blind – not looking, at the things in His word.
