Welcome to support for the Calendar of Scripture iPhone app. This page explains how to begin, where to find the main tools and what to check if something is not working as expected.
Getting started
- Open Your Calendar and tap the location card at the top.
- Search for the town, city or region whose calendar you want to view.
- Choose the result and allow the calendar a moment to prepare its regional dates.
- Use Previous, Current and Next to move between lunar months. The same selected month is shared with the Global Map and Compass.
What each section does
Your Calendar
Shows the predicted first-crescent evening, New Moon Day, Sabbaths and the regional Scriptural and Gregorian calendar views for the selected location.
Global Map
Shows where the first crescent may be seen around the world and how the Scriptural date line overlaps Gregorian dates. This global section is not based on the user’s current physical location.
Compass
Shows the direction and approximate height above the horizon for the predicted crescent. Point the top edge of the phone toward the indicated direction. When measuring height, hold the phone flat for 0° and lift the top edge toward the sky. The combined display changes colour as the phone approaches the required direction and elevation.
Sky View
Provides a simulated view of the sky for the chosen calendar location and time. If that location is far from where the phone is physically located, the simulation remains available but physical pointing arrows are disabled so they are not misleading. Stars can be difficult or impossible to see in the display during daylight.
Sightings
Lets you keep a private observation on the phone or submit an anonymous report of an eligible crescent sighting. Submitted reports include the information described before submission and appear as approximate markers after approval or automatic validation. Reports outside the predicted viewing areas are held for checking.
Supporter Upgrade
The one-time Supporter Upgrade unlocks Sky View, multiple saved locations, custom reminders, calendar export, location-based PDF calendars and the home-screen widget. If a previous purchase is not recognised, open Supporter Features and choose Restore Purchase. Make sure the iPhone is signed in to the Apple account that made the purchase.
Adding the home-screen widget
- Open the Calendar of Scripture app and allow your selected calendar to load.
- Return to the iPhone Home Screen.
- Touch and hold an empty area, then choose Edit and Add Widget.
- Search for Calendar of Scripture.
- Choose the small or medium widget and add it to the Home Screen.
Calendar exports and reminders
Calendar export requires calendar permission. Google and Outlook calendars must already be connected to the iPhone through Settings or their calendar app. Adding or removing a large number of Google Calendar events may take a couple of minutes. When changing the calendar location, review your reminders so they can be updated for the new regional dates.
Troubleshooting
- Calendar not updating: check the internet connection, return to Your Calendar and choose Current.
- Compass or Sky View not pointing: allow Location and Motion access, and confirm the phone is near the selected calendar location.
- Notifications missing: check Settings → Notifications → Calendar of Scripture.
- Calendar export unavailable: check Settings → Privacy & Security → Calendars and confirm the intended calendar account is connected.
- Widget is empty: open the app, load Your Calendar and confirm that Supporter access is active.
