The appointed times are not governed by the moon?

The following has been modified from the original source at creationcalendar.com and Worlds Last Chance.

It genuinely amazes me when someone says there is no proof in Scripture or the historical record that the original Sabbath was observed by the phases of the sun, moon and stars. Most of the time, this is a statement made by someone who has really not studied the issue thoroughly.

If you wish to maintain that the Rabbinical Sabbath is the only valid interpretation; I respectfully present a list of 21 categories of Scripture you must ignore, disregard or spiritualize away. This is not an exhaustive list…

1. Leviticus 23:1-3 says the Sabbath is the first of the Mo’edim (feasts-Strong’s H#4150), so you can ignore Genesis 1:14 (heavenly luminaries are for Mo’edim), and Psalms 104:19 (moon for Mo’edim).

Leviticus 23:1-3
1  Yahuwah spoke again to Moses, saying,
2 “Speak to the children of Israel and say to them, ‘The appointed times (Mow’ed) of Yahuwah which you shall proclaim as holy convocations (calling together) —My appointed times (Mow’ed) are these:
3 ‘For six days work may be done, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation (calling together). You shall not do any work [on that day]; it is the Sabbath of Yahuwah wherever you may be.

Genesis 1:14
14 Then Elohim said, “Let there be light-bearers (sun, moon, stars) in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be useful for signs, and for marking appointed times, and for days, and for years;

Psalms 104:19
19 He made the moon for the appointed times. The sun knows the place of its setting.

2. If you think the Sabbath is NOT a Mo’ed, then ignore all of the following passages of Scripture:

I Chronicles 23:30-31
30 They are to stand every morning to thank and praise Yahuwah, and likewise at evening, 31 and to offer all burnt sacrifices to Yahuwah on the Sabbaths, the New Moons, and all the appointed times (Mow’ed) by number according to the ordinance concerning them, continually before Yahuwah.

II Chronicles 2:4
4 Behold, I build an house to the name of Yahuwah Elohim, to dedicate it to him, and to burn before him sweet incense, and for the continual shewbread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening on the sabbaths, and on the new moons, and on the appointed times (Mow’ed) of Yahuwah Elohim. This is an ordinance for ever to Israel.

II Chronicles 8:12-13
12 Then Solomon offered burnt offerings to Yahuwah on the altar of Yahuwah which he had built in front of the porch [of the temple],
13 a certain number every day, offering them up as Moses commanded for the Sabbaths, the New Moons, and the three annual feasts (Mow’ed): The appointed time of Unleavened Bread, the appointed time of Harvest, and the appointed time of Booths (Tabernacles).

II Chronicles 31:3
31 He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the appointed times (Mow’ed) as it is written in the law of Yahuwah.

Ezra 3:5
And afterward there was the continual burnt offering, both of the new moons, and of all the appointed times of Yahuwah that were consecrated, and of every one that willingly offered a freewill offering unto Yahuwah.

Nehemiah 10:33
33 for the showbread; for the continual grain offerings and the continual burnt offerings of the Sabbaths, the New Moons, the appointed times (Mow’ed); for the holy things, for the sin offerings to make atonement for Israel; and for all the work of the house of Elohim.

 Ezekiel 45:17
17 It shall be the prince’s responsibility to provide the burnt offerings, the grain offerings, and the drink offerings at the feasts, on the New Moons and on the Sabbaths, at all the appointed times (mow’ed) of the house of Israel.

Hosea 2:11
11 “I will also put an end to all her rejoicing,
Her feast days, her New Moons, her Sabbaths,
And all her appointed times (Mow’ed).

Lamenations 2:6
6 And he hath violently taken away his tabernacle, as if it were of a garden: he hath destroyed his appointed times (Mow’ed): Yahuwah hath caused the appointed times (Mow’ed) and sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion, and hath despised in the indignation of his anger the king and the priest.

3. Ignore that the Exodus was on Sabbath, the 15th of Abib

Numbers 33:3
3 They set out from Rameses on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the day after the Passover the Israelites moved out triumphantly in the sight of all the Egyptians

Deuteronomy 5:12-15
12 ‘Observe the Sabbath day to keep it holy, as Yahuwah Elohim commanded you.
13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
14 but the seventh day is a Sabbath [a day of rest dedicated] to Yahuwah Elohim; on that day you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter or your male servant or your female servant or your ox or your donkey or any of your livestock or the stranger who stays inside your gates, so that your male servant and your female servant may rest as well as you.
15 You shall remember that you were a slave in the land of Egypt, and that Yahuwah Elohim brought you out of there with a mighty hand and by an outstretched arm;Yahuwah Elohim has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.

4. Ignore that the 15th day of the second month was also the Sabbath. Manna fell for 6 days after the 15th. They gathered twice as much on the 6th day (the 21st day of the month, 15 + 6 = 21) because the following day was the Sabbath. If the 22nd was the Sabbath, so was the 15th.

Exodus 16:1
1 They set out from Elim, and all the congregation of Israel came to the Wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after they left the land of Egypt.

5. Normally, I like 2-3 witnesses (texts) in order to prove a doctrine, but I will lower that standard to even ONE passage in Scripture that says that Satyrday is the Sabbath. When you cannot find one, please ignore that as evidence.

6. Please disregard the fact that the daily sacrifices of Numbers chapters 28-29 are offered in addition to the sacrifices of the weekly Sabbath and annual appointed times, and that the monthly offering is offered in addition on the appointed time of Trumpets, the first day of the seventh month. But the Sabbath offering is never offered if it “just happens” to fall on one of the appointed times. There are no coincidences in Scripture.

7. Ignore that Numbers 29:12-35 shows eight days where the first and last (15th and 22nd) are Sabbaths. There is no provision for a Sabbath to “just happen to fall in the middle somewhere” because the Sabbaths are fixed, they fall on the same days each month.

Numbers 29:12 and 35
12 ‘Then on the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy [summoned] assembly; you shall do no laborious work, and you shall observe the appointed time of Booths to Yahuwah for seven days.
…..
35 ‘On the eighth day you shall have a solemn assembly [the day after the end of the appointed time of booths]; you shall do no laborious work.
36 You shall present a burnt offering, an offering by fire, as a sweet and soothing aroma to Yahuwah: one bull, one ram, seven male lambs one year old without blemish;

8. Ignore how Exodus 40 through Leviticus 8 describes the seven days of consecration for Aaron and his sons (starting on Rosh Chodesh—the new moon or first day of the month) without the intervention of a Sabbath, and how the Sabbath fell on the 8th, the day AFTER the 7 day consecration. This seven day stretch was a new moon and 6 work days if you’re counting.

9. Ignore the battle of Jericho (Joshua 6:1-16), and how every day for seven days, Israel dressed for battle, carried every weapon at their disposal AND carried the Ark of the Covenant into this battle. Which begs the question: Which day of this 7 day battle was the Sabbath?

Point to Ponder: For 40 years, Yahuwah taught Israel how to keep the Sabbath. Are we to believe that His first instructions after entering the land was to break the Sabbath by engaging in battle?

Come now, let us reason together. The Book of Jasher, twice mentioned in Scripture, gives an account of this battle adding only one small detail. This 7 day battle began on a new moon day (Day 1). Day one is followed by six working days (2-7). The first Sabbath of each month is the 8th day of the month. Israel marched around Jericho for 7 consecutive days (1-7) and did not break the Sabbath, as they observed the Creation Calendar…

Joshua 6:1-6
1 Now Jericho [a fortified city with high walls] was tightly closed because [of the people’s fear] of the sons of Israel; no one went out or came in.
2 Yahuwah said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, with its king and the mighty warriors.
3 Now you shall march around the city, all the men of war circling the city once. You shall do this [once each day] for six days.
4 Also, seven priests shall carry seven trumpets [made] of rams’ horns ahead of the ark; then on the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.
5 When they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall cry out with a great shout (battle cry); and the wall of the city will fall down in its place, and the people shall go up, each man [going] straight ahead [climbing over the rubble].”
6 So Joshua the son of Nun called for the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and have seven priests carry seven trumpets made of rams’ horns ahead of the ark of Elohim.”

Jasher 88:14
14 And it was in the second month, on the first day of the month, that Yahuwah said to Joshua, Rise up, behold I have given Jericho into thy hand with all the people thereof; and all your fighting men shall go round the city, once each day, thus shall you do for six days.

10. Disregard the dozen times in the Old Testament that Rosh Chodesh and the weekly Sabbath are uttered in the same breath, especially those which show a connection between them (Amos 8:5, II Kings 4:23, etc. See #2). Disregard that no week days are mentioned here. Do these week days not exist? This is the same thing which occurs with the Sabbath commandment which does not mention New Moon days. Do New Moon days not exist?

Amos 8:4-5
4 Hear this, you who trample down the needy, and do away with the poor of the land, 5 saying,
“When will the New Moon be over

So that we may sell grain,
And the Sabbath ended so that we may open the wheat market,
Making the ephah [measure] smaller and the shekel bigger [that is, selling less for a higher price]
And to cheat by falsifying the scales?

2 Kings 4:23
23 He said, “Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath.” And she said, “It will be all right.”

11. Ignore the fact that new moon days are always excluded from the work days and Sabbaths (Ezekiel 46:1-3, Isaiah 66:23, and Amos 8:5). New moon day is a 3rd category of day. It is the first day of the month, but not a day of the week, which consists of 6 work days and a Sabbath.

Ezekiel 46:1-3
1 ‘Thus says Yahuwah Elohim, “The gate of the inner courtyard that faces east shall be shut during the six working days, but it shall be opened on the Sabbath day and opened on the day of the New Moon.
2 The prince shall enter by the porch (portico) of the gate from outside and stand by the post of the gate. The priests shall prepare and provide his burnt offering and his peace offerings, and he shall worship at the threshold of the gate and then go out; but the gate shall not be shut until evening.
3 The people of the land shall also worship at the entrance of that gate before Yahuwah on the Sabbaths and on the New Moons.

Isaiah 66:23
23 “And it shall be that from New Moon to New Moon
And from Sabbath to Sabbath,
All mankind will come to bow down and worship before Me,” says Yahuwah

Point to Ponder:
Ever wondered why the new moon can now fall on any day of the month?

Answer:
“In 46 B.C., Julius Caesar asked astronomer Sosigenes to suggest ways to improve the calendar. Acting on Sosigenes suggestions, Caesar ordered the Romans to disregard the moon in calculating their calendars.” World Book Encyclopedia, Vol. 3, p. 28.
See Dan. 7:25 and Rev. 13:3.

Daniel 7:25
25 He will speak words against the Most High and wear down the saints of the Most High, and he will intend to change the times and the law; and they will be given into his hand for a time, [two] times, and half a time [three and one-half years].

Revelation 13:3
3 I saw one of his heads which seemed to have a fatal wound, but his fatal wound was healed; and the entire earth followed after the beast in amazement

12. Ignore that Yahuwah reserved 7,000 who have not kneeled to baal and that there are only 144,000 who keep the commandments of Yahuwah.

Romans 11:1-4
1 I say then, has Elohim rejected and disowned His people? Certainly not! For I too am an Israelite, a descendant of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2 Elohim has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says of Elijah, how he pleads with Elohim against Israel?
3 “Yahuwah, they have killed Your prophets, they have torn down Your altars, and I alone am left [of the prophets], and they are seeking my life.”
4 But what is Elohim’s response to him? “I have kept for Myself seven thousand men who have not bowed the knee to Baal.”

Revelation 7:2-4
2 Then I saw another angel coming up from the rising of the sun, holding the seal of the living Elohim; and with a loud voice he called out to the four angels to whom it was granted [to have authority and power] to harm the earth and the sea,
3 saying, “Do not harm the earth nor the sea nor the trees until we seal (mark) the bond-servants of our Elohim on their foreheads.”
4 And I heard how many were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand; [twelve thousand] sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:

Revelation 14:12
12 Here is [encouragement for] the steadfast endurance of the saints, those who habitually keep Yahuwah’s commandments and their faith in Yahushua.

13. Ignore the total lack of postponement rules in the Torah dealing with the inevitable conflicts between Satyrday and Yahuwah’s other appointed times — and be thankful that Hillel II, a Jewish priest, added them for you, to “repair” what Yahuwah had ordained.

14. Please disregard the fact that David only set 24 courses of Temple service (I Chronicles 23-24), which of course works fine with 48 week lunar-based years, but self-destructs if the weeks are detached from the months, resulting in 18 days with no Temple service. There are Temple services on these 18 days. They are new moon days.

15. Don’t forget to ignore that all 4 Gospel writers call the 16th day of the month the first day of the week, indicating that the 15th was the Sabbath. (Matthew 28:1, Mark 16:2, Luke 24:1, John 20:1, 19). The 15th of Abib was a high Sabbath (weekly and annual Sabbath) EVERY year.

16. Disregard Lucifer’s boast (Isaiah 14:13) that he will sit on the “mount of the congregation,” (this word “congregation” is Mow’ed again). Satan is claiming his authority over the calendar to create appointed times contrary to Yahuwah’s.

Isaiah 14:13
13 “But you said in your heart,
‘I will ascend to heaven;
I will raise my throne above the stars of Elohim;
I will sit on the mount of the appointed times (congregation);
In the remote parts of the north.

17. Ignore Amos’s prophecy that Israel would worship “Chiun (Saturn) the star god you made for yourselves”

Amos 5:26
26 You carried along your king Sikkuth and Kayyun [your man-made gods of Saturn], your images of your star-god which you made for yourselves [but you brought Me none of the appointed sacrifices].

18. Consider it purely coincidence that every weekly Sabbath in the Scripture which can be clearly date-identified, is on the 8th-15th-22nd-29th days of the Chodesh (month) without a single exception. Even history records a lunar regulated Sabbath…

“The Hebrew Sabbathon was celebrated at intervals of seven days, corresponding with changes in the moon’s phases…” Encyclopedia Biblica, 1899 edit., p. 4180

“In the time of the earliest prophets, the New Moon stood in the same line with another lunar observance, the Sabbath. Scribner’s Dictionary of the Bible (1898 edit.), p. 521

19. Also disregard the total lack of Scriptures telling us to observe quarterly Sabbaths, every 91 days, or other holidays based on Egyptian or Babylonian calendars.

Using the book of Enoch it is said that there are consecutive 30 day months and after three months (90 days) there is an extra Sabbath added (day 91).

There is no reason to return to the bondage of Egypt or the confusion of Babylon, please see Isaiah 8:20.

Isaiah 8:20
20 [Direct those people] to the law and to the testimony! If their teachings are not in accord with this word, it is because they have not even the start of light in them (dawn).

There is also no Scriptural evidence for there to be 5-6 un-numbered days at the end of the year (days that do not count against the current year).

There you have it, a list (or lack) of Scriptures to ignore. If you are not yet convinced to get off the Gregorian Calendar, at the very least, admit that the original Sabbath, based on the cycles of the moon, is a valid interpretation of Scripture, and do not condemn your brethren who are led to observe it.

20. Ignore the fact that using a continuous calendar loses time when traveling east and west.

At Noahs ark, if a tribe of seventh-day Sabbath keeping Shemites moved to the East, following the rising sun, eventually, several years later, they would come to a point half way around the world.  Being Sabbath keepers, they would have kept very careful track of time. Let us say, just for this example, that they had used a continuous weekly cycle.  Due to the fact that they moved toward the rising sun, once they reached the far side of the world, they would be 12 hours ahead of their original starting point at Ararat

If a tribe of seventh-day Sabbath keeping Japhethites also moved from Ararat.  This tribe, however, moved to the West, following the setting sun.  Being Sabbath keepers, they also would have kept a careful track of time.  Again, for the sake of illustration, let us say they too used continuously cycling weeks.

A few years later, upon arriving at the same point on the other side of the world occupied by the tribe of Shemites that moved east, the tribe of Japhethites that moved west would, by the act of moving in a westerly direction, be 12 hours behind the time at Ararat.  The two tribes, one having gone east, the other west, would discover that they were a full 24 hours apart from each other.

This would not be due to one group losing track.  Rather, it is simply the result of one group traveling east, ahead of the daylight, and the other group traveling west, backward into the night that comes before the day.
