Scripture speaks of the day and of the night. Many say the day starts at midnight. Some others say the day starts at night. But what does scripture say?
The first witness:
The answer to this question is found in Genesis 1:1 and in 1 John 1:5-7. In Genesis 1 we read the following in English:
Genesis 1:1
In the beggining, Elohim created the heaven and the earth.
In the original language we read:
Bereshith elohim bara’ ‘eth shamayim ‘eth ‘erets.
Bereshith means – In the beginning. Elohim is the one many interpret as God, but His name is Elohim – the creator. The word Elohim means much more than the creator however. In 1 John 1:5-7 we come to learn something important about who Elohim is.
It says:
1 John 1:5-7
5 This is the message which we have heard from Him and now announce to you, that Elohim is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
7 but if we walk in the Light, as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another [He with us, and we with Him], and the blood of Yahshua His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Verse 5 tells us that Elohim is Light. There is no darkness in Him. He is full of Light. Scripture indeed tells us to build line upon line, precept upon precept.
Isaiah 28:13
13 But the word of Elohim was to them,
“Precept upon precept, precept upon precept,
Line upon line, line upon line,
Here a little, there a little,”
Such that they might go and fall backward, be broken, snared and caught.
By taking what He was told us, that Elohim is Light and the first two words of Genisis 1:1 we come to understand:
In the beginning (Bereshith) there was Light (Elohim) and that is what created the heavens and the earth.
The second witness
The next thing we see in scripture is that the earth was without form and void and there was darkness upon the face of the deep.
Genesis 1:2
2 The earth was formless and void, a waste and emptiness. Darkness was upon the face of the deep. The Spirit of Elohim was moving over the face of the waters.
Now the verse above is what many use to say that there was darkness first, but we have just see how there was light first as Elohim is that Light. These people do not seem to notice that the day has not yet even started.
You see if Elohim is Light then He creates in Light and this would be the first thing which He created. We see that Elohim does all His work in Light (as He Himself is Light). And so one needs to ask when is it that Elohim works? We see Yahshua telling us in John 9 the following:
John 9:4
4 We must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night is coming when no one can work.
You see Yahshua came to do the work of the Father. The son did as the Father showed him. The Father works in Light. The son did the same. So let us see what happened the first day – when Elohim did work.
Genesis 1:3-5
3 Elohim said, “Let there be light”; and there was light.
4 Elohim saw that the light was good and He affirmed and sustained it;
Elohim separated the light from the darkness.
5 Elohim called the light day, and the darkness He called night.
Then there was evening and then there was morning.
Day one.
Elohim worked in the day. He worked in the Light. He seperated the Light from the darkness. And at this time, while the Light was there He called the Light day, and the darkness He called Night.
There was no Day until Elohim said “Let there be Light”. None. Elohim worked in the Light. He is Light. The Light existed first, then there was evening (the light fading) then there was morning (the light rising), and that was called a day.
Matthew 18:16
16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two others, so that every word may be confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses.

The day is Light. Then there is evening (the sun setting) and then there is morning (the sun rising). One day.
This agrees with Worlds Last chance brother. They themselves say “The night begins at dusk and ends at dawn.” Dusk is evening. Dawn is morning. The time before dusk is the day. The also say “When Yahuwah separated the light from the darkness, He called the light “Day” and then He defined that “day” as being made up of both the evening and the morning:”
This is what the article says. You seem to see it saying something else which it is not.

His Word still stands in the said order which says, “… And the evening and the morning were the first day.” [Genesis 1:5] And this simply means that the evening preceeds the day in any one day period. Amen.

Yes, what you have said is so true. I have never denied this scriptural fact. And as a matter of fact, there was no time when Light was not. Besides, of the two great lights: Yahweh made the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. So what we call darkness is really the lesser light.
Thus when Yahweh says in His Word that the evening and the morning were the first day, it simple means that the new day commences from the lesser light at sundown, in this order. [Genesis 1:14-16]
Again,
In His well-defined day, Yahweh started to measure it backwards when the infallible Word says, “And the evening and the morning were the first day.”[Genesis 1:5]

From the time the Light came to be, to the time the sun set in the evening, to the time the sun started to rise again, that is a day. A day never starts in darkness. For the scripture start with Light and end in Light.
Light – Which is a day – never starts with the sun setting.

Hello Luv,
What is between the evening and the morning? Is it not night? The evening comes. There is darkness. Then the morning arrives when the light comes.
That is only half the day. The first half, where He said “Let there be Light” you are leaving out.
You see when the Father said Let there be Light – and there was Light. That is the day. He tells us we can only work during the day whilst there is Light. Then comes the evening, then the morning. And all of that (not just the evening and morning) makes up a day.

In the above mentioned, the terms "evening" and "morning" are nouns. And in the sentence, "This was the first day," the term "This" is a demonstrative pronoun which refers to the two nouns, namely, evening, morning, which come before it in the said divine order in your own sentence, "Then there was evening and then there was morning." So this
sentence therefore proves that the evening followed by the morning was "the first day." [Genesis 1:5]
According to Genesis 1:5 I am saying too, "And the evening and the morning were the first day."

I like Math. Do you? This is how it would be written as a mathematical equation.
((Work + Elohim said let there be Light) + (Evening + morning) ) = A DAY.
You seem to be saying that:
(Evening + Morning) = A DAY.
One cannot remove the tyres and the engine from a car, and call it an automobile can they? It is missing parts and it would not function as an automobile. The same way one cannot remove the Light from the day, and then just call that which is left over a day. That is flipping around what He told us.
Where is the Light between evening and morning to work?
The sentence says “Then there was evening and then there was morning. This was the first day.” means After the Light – the time of work (which we are told is a day by Yahshua himself), there was evening and then there was morning. All of that made up a day.

Examine the following sentences please:
1. There was evening and there was morning: together they made up the first day.
The conjunction “and” joins the two sentences and since the subject is plural, the third person pronoun “they” is used to match its antecedent.
2. In the KJV Genesis 1:5 says,”And God, Elohim, called the light Day, and the darkness Night. “And the evening and the morning were the first day.” In this sentence the subject, namely, “the evening and the morning” is plural, and this is why the plural verb “were” is used. This is a perfect example of subject and verb agreement. And that not one, but the two subjects together made up the first day.
3. Let look at the same sentence in Genesis 1:5, by doing the following practical exercise.
Materials required:
a. A plain sheet of paper, say, 8″x 12″
b. One HB pencil or a colored crayon or marker.
Practical Instruction:
Fold the paper in half and then open the whole sheet in front of you. Next shade one half of it neatly. When you have finished look at the neatly shaded part and the unshaded part.

1. What is between the shaded and the unshaded on the sheet of paper?
2. What part of the sheet of paper the two halves together make up?

You are subtracting from the scripture when you say that the evening and the morning made up the first day.
Q1. What is a DAY?
A1. A Day is Light.
Q2. What is Night
A2. The Night is darkness.
Q3. How much Light do we see?
A3. 12 Hours of Light.
Q4. How much darkness is there?
A4. 12 Hours of Darkness.
Q5. How can a Day be 24 hours long then if there are 12 hours of Light and 12 hours of darkness if Light is day?
A5. The Light travels around the globe. Whilst we do not always have Light, the Light is there but just not visible.
Q6. When does a day start?
A6. The day starts with Light.
Q7. What does a day start with Light?
A7. Because He is Light and because it was the first thing created.
Q8. When do we work?
A8. We work during the day when it is Light.
Q9. What is between the evening (when the sun sets) and Morning (when the sun rises) and what happens then?
A9. Between the evening and the morning is night. It is a time of rest.
A day to you and I is made up of 12 hours of Light and 12 hours of darkness. A day to Elohim is made up of 24 hours of Light. Hence the reason we see Him working first (in the day) and then there was evening and then there was morning – and that all makes up the first day.
The same for the second day. We see Elohim working and then there is evening and then there is morning – the second day. If you just say that evening and morning are a day, then WHEN do you work??
This is what we see:
Gen 1:3 And Elohim said, “Let Or come to be,” and Or came to be. (Or is Light)
Gen 1:4 And Elohim saw the Or, that it was good. And Elohim separated the Or from the Choshek. (Choshek is darkness)
Gen 1:5 And Elohim called the Or ‘Yom’ (day) and the Choshek He called ‘Laila.’ (night) And (after He finished that day’s creation) there came to be Erev and there came to be Boker (When the first day completes and the second day begins), the first Yom.

Finally, the infallible Word stands sure, and I continue to say what it says as it speaks for itself, this is,”…And Elohim (God) called the light Day, and the darkness He called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” [Genesis 1:5]
Again, … And Elohim mde the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament : and it was so. And Elohim called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the seconf day.” [Genesis 1:7-8]
Again, and Elohim said, “Let the earth bring forth grass …. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after its kind, whose seed is in itself, after its kind: and Elohim saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.” [Genesis 1:11-13]
Heavenly Father, the honor and the glory belongs to you. I give you praise, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Yahshua said in John 9:4 the following:

So in those scriptures, you just quoted, when did the Father work. Before the evening or after the evening? Let’s see:
1. ”…And Elohim (God) called the light Day, and the darkness He called night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.” [Genesis 1:5]
Here He worked first, and THEN there was evening and then there was morning. What is between evening and morning? The answer is Night and Yahshua said that no one can work during the night.
So what you have quoted is exactly correct. Your understanding however, that evening and morning (the part where not work was done) makes up a day is not correct. Work is done during the daylight hours as He tells us it was.
Let’s look at the second verse you quoted and see if it is the same:
And Elohim made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. And Elohim called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.” [Genesis 1:7-8]
Again, Elohim works, then comes evening, then morning and we are told that is the second day.
What about the third day?
“Let the earth bring forth grass …. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after its kind, whose seed is in itself, after its kind: and Elohim saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.” [Genesis 1:11-13]
Again, Elohim worked (during the Light) and then there was evening (when darkness starts) and then there was morning (when darkness ends) and that is the third day.
The evening is defined as the time period when the sun sets. Morning is defined as the period when the sun rises.
Evening: The period of time at the end of the daylight
Morning: The period of time when the sun rises. That is Daybreak.
When you understand that, then you understand what a day is in His clock.
