Was Yahshua ignorant of the Day and Hour?

There is always discussion when I speak to people about the day that the scriptures tell us of His return. It is something that I would agree, seems puzzling.

Let us have a look at the scripture which is being referred to here:

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Matthew 24:36

The reason I am bringing this scripture to light, is because it would appear to contradict the word of God if you view it alone. What do I mean?

If you take a moment and go and have a look in the book of Leviticus chapter 23, you will find here a list of feasts. The word feasts is translated from the Hebrew word, Moed.

It is best understood in English to mean an appointed time or place. It is a time which is predetermined and set aside.

Leviticus 23 lists the Sabbath as the first item, then lists the following appointed times:

  1. 14th day of the first month – Passover
  2. 15th day to the 22nd day of the first month – Unleavened Bread
  3. 16th day of the first month – First Fruits (the barley harvest)
  4. 16th day of the 3rd month – The day of Harvest (the wheat harvest)
  5. 1st day of the 7th month – The day of Trumpets
  6. 9th day at even to the 10th day at even of the seventh month – The day of Atonement
  7. 15th day to the 22nd day of the seventh month – The time of Booths.

Each of these events is spoken about in the Bible. For example, Yahshua was crucified upon the 14th day of the first month. They threw away the leaven in their bread and started afresh from the 15th day to the 22nd day. Then He became our first fruits upon the 16th day. It was upon this day that many were seen in the streets resurrected. This was the barely harvest.

52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

Matthew 27:52-53

We see three items being fulfilled here which were written about well before they occurred. So what about the other appointed times which the scriptures speak about?

In Isaiah 42:9 we read of a promise from Yahuwah to His people. It says:

Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

How is it that here, He declares that before He does something, He will declare them to us, however in Matthew 24:36 He would seem to be saying that He does not know.

When we read in the scriptures how He knew of His death which was approaching, but the disciples were not aware of them even though he told them about it.

31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.

32 For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on:

33 And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again.

34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.

Luke 18:31-34

The Father does tell us beforehand. He has laid out these things in His appointments with us. So what does he mean then in Matthew 24:36?? We find a similar scripture in Mark 13:32-33 as well.

32 But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father.

33 Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.

Mark 13:32-33

Yahshua when speaking to His Disciples spoke of the Wheat harvest. An example of this is found in Matthew 13:24-30

24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:

25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.

26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.

27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?

28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?

29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.

30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Matthew 13:24-30

There are two harvest listed in the book of Leviticus. The Barley harvest and the Wheat harvest.

There may be some saying at this point, that the time I have listed here as the the time of harvest is called the day of Pentecost. Just to clarify, it is the same appointed time, it just uses a different english name depending upon where you are reading about it. An example of this is also the feast of Booths which is also called the feast of Tabernacles or the feast of Ingathering.

e.g.

14 “Three times you shall keep an appointed time to Me in the year:
15 You shall keep the Appointed time of Unleavened Bread. You shall eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month of Abib, for in it you came out of Egypt; none shall appear before Me empty;
16 and the Appointed time of Harvest (Pentecost), the firstfruits of your labors which you have sown in the field; and the Appointed time of Ingathering (booths) at the end of the year, when you have gathered in the fruit of your labors from the field.

Exodus 23:14-16

16 “Three times a year all your males shall appear before Yahuwah Elohim in the place which He chooses: at the appointed time of Unleavened Bread, at the Appointed time of Harvest (Weeks or Pentecost), and at the Appointed time of Tabernacles (Booths or Ingathering); and they shall not appear before Yahuwah empty-handed.
17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of Yahuwah Elohim which He has given you.

Deuteronomy 16:16-17

It was from the time of Adam right through until the time of Yahshua, that know one knew the day in which the crucifiction would take place. They did not see that He was the Lamb. He was the one to be crucified even when he plainly told them. We look at it today from our viewpoint and see how simple it would have been to see, but they were blinded until after the crucifiction had taken place.

Yahshua has told us which day upon His calendar the Harvest will take place. He has not told us which year it will fall upon. He has not declared this. Thus at this time we do not know the day.

Yes. We know which day it upon his calendar it will fall upon for He set us times. We do not know when that day will arrive at the moment however as we do not know what year the tribulation will commence.

This is up to the Father to declare.

When we read the scriptures, we need to take it in the context as well as the words, because if you only read the words, you can miss the full meaning. For example, Paul is speaking here:

1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of Elohim.

For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Yahushua ha Maschiach, and him crucified.

1 Corinthians 2:2

If we ignored the context here and only viewed the words alone, we would beleive that Paul didn’t know anything, but that Yahushua was crucified, and we can see simply how silly that is. The scripture here is not saying that Paul did not know anything, but rather that he decided to declare or make known Yahshua and His crucifiction.

When Yahshua said that “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only” he is not saying that He is ignorant of the day, rather he is saying it is not for Him to declare to them that day.

In the book of Acts chapter 1 we see this spoken clearly, where He says that the exact time is not for them to know but the Father only.

Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or appointed time which the Father has put in His own authority.

Acts 1:6-7

The simplest way for me to explain this clearly is to give an example.

Each of us has a day in which we were born into this world. If I were to say to my child that on one of their birthdays, I am going to give them a special gift, then I said, of that day and hour you will not know, only myself will know, then the child knows that upon one of their birthdays the special gift will be given to them, but they do not know which day and hour it will be. The Father only knows this.

This is what is being spoken of here.

Scripture gives us a clear sign of when the count of days will begin with. We are told here that the days shall be shortened. There is a lot in this scripture which I won’t go into here, but the sign spoken of alone.

21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

Matthew 24:21-22

Daniel and Revelation both speak of three time periods. 1260 days. 1290 days, 1335 days. If you count from the appointed time of Trumpets 1335 days, the next day is the day of Harvest. It has all been organised from the beggining.

So understanding the context of what is being said is very important when reading His word.

Yahuwah Bless.

  1. Well if we do not know the day we certainly know the hour , Read about the 10 virgins MATTHEW 25:6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
