No Man knows the day or the hour

I have been looking at a Scripture which I have heard many many times. I felt that some explanation on how I understand this scripture is necessary.

You can find the scripture in a couple of locations, but we will start with Matthew 24.

36 But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only.
37 But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
38 For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,
39 and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
40 Then two men will be in the field: one will be taken and the other left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill: one will be taken and the other left.
42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.
43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into.
44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Matthew 24:36-44

Now some say that this scripture should be understood, that no matter what, you will never know when His appointed time of return will be. But there are many times in scripture where you can quote one scripture against another scripture and they do not seem to agree.

And this is not to say that the scripture must be wrong, but rather our perspective on what that scripture says needs to change.

I love to show this image as it explains so visually what I mean. If you look one way you will see a circle. If you look the other way it is a square. But when you view it from another view, you can see a cylinder which is made up of two items which do not seem to match.

In Amos 3:7 we read:

Surely Yahuwah Elohim will do nothing without revealing His secret to His servants the prophets.

Amos 3:7

So if God does nothing without revealing it, then before the time of trouble, we should expect to know. So then how do we reconcile these two scriptures such that they both agree?

It is simple. At present we do not know when the time of trouble will begin. No one does. (The square).
However He has given us things to watch out for. These are signs. One of the biggest signs is in the day length. It shall be shortened, giving us a 360 day year again never to change from that time on (The circle).

21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. 22 And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect’s sake those days will be shortened.

Matthew 24:22

Matthew 25 gives a parable of ten virgins. In this parable, the virgins did not know when the bridegroom was coming. However there is a time when they do know:

Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.

And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ 10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.

Matthew 25:1-10

So then there must be two groups of people. One group who knows when the time is, but does not know specifically what year or hour it is, and another group that does (The cylinder). When you read on in Matthew 25, you see the group that was not prepared.

11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’

13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

Matthew 25:11-13

In 1 Thessalonians 5, the same is spoken about and in this book we see more clarity around this time period. Here we see the circle, the square and the cylinder in the one scripture.

But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of Yahuwah so comes as a thief in the night.

For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.

But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.

Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation.
For Elohim did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through Yahushua HaMaschiach, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

1 Thesalonians 5:1-10

So there is a group of people who are in darkness (e.g. Those who only see a square or a circle), and another group of people who are in Light and this group of people are not surprised when the time arrives, but everyone else is (They see the cylinder).

This is why it is so important to understand His appointed times. What they represent. When they are and what we were to do upon each of them.

Yes. Passover, Unleavened Bread and First fruits have been Fulfilled. The appointed time of Trumpets, the day of atonement, and the Time of Booths or Tabernacles has not yet been Fulfilled.

Also the second harvest, also known as the appointed time of harvest or sometimes referred to as Pentecost has not yet been fulfilled. If you do not know what these times are for, when they are to be fulfilled and how they fit in with the 1260 days, 1290 days and 1335 days, then a calendar study and a study of what His appointed times are for is a great place to start.

  1. No man maketh known the day or the hour of Christ’s 2nd coming. What we do know, is the year, that is the end of 6,000 years of sin. Namely 2031. Roman/Gregorian Calendar.

He gave us His appointed times so we know what happens when. What is being said is that know body will know which year his Tribulation day will begin, but those who know His appointed times, will recognise the signs and know when it actually starts. The days shall be shortened.
There is a harvest at the end. That is the time He has set for this purpose.

For otherwise Amos 3:7 is not true.

Surely Yahuwah Elohim will do nothing, but he revealeth his secrets unto his servants the prophets.

  2. Hi Friend. I look at the first 3 Moed as fulfilled as well. I also equate The 1st harvest of Barley as those who were pulled out of “sleep” and offered as the first fruits to the father . Our Savior and King will have two more Harvest’s to deal with , in which he again will present to the father and wave his offering during the Moed that are in conjunction to the Harvest of wheat, and the final Harvest of Grapes where this will be a group who in my seeing , are a group who are saved and make it through the Great Beast system tribulation .
Have you done a study on the fall moed (The kings love dates he made for yahisrael?)

  3. I am thinking that you may be drawing a long bow with your thinking that Matt 24:22 means that the day length will be shortened and the calendar restored but you may be right. I am expecting the calendar to restored soon as a sign. I am more inclined to understand this verse to mean that this verse refers to the ‘number’ of days rather then the ‘length’ of a day but maybe it is both. ‘Number’ of days referring to days of ‘what’? Apathy perhaps!

    1. Hi John.

Definitely not a long bow. You can’t shorten the number of days as He has told us exactly how many days there are. However you can shorten the day… in fact you have to shorten the day otherwise the suns year will remain at 365 days and the lunar year will remain at 354 days. If the earth sped up the day length would then be shortened and it will bring back into alignment the solar and lunar years making both 360 days against … and this is what Revelation and Daniel speak of.
