Introduction: When Time Itself Became a Distraction
From the very first chapter of Genesis, Yahuwah יְהוָה established the heavenly bodies as His divine timekeepers:
Genesis 1:14–16
“And Elohim said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for appointed times, and for days, and years:
And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
And Elohim made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: He made the stars also.”
Here, the Creator defines the purpose of the sun, moon, and stars: not only to give light, but to mark the days, the months, the years, and His moedim — His appointed times.
This system was simple, observable, and unchangeable. A new moon marked a new month. Sabbaths followed a seven-day rhythm tied to that lunar cycle. The moedim — Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Shavuot, Trumpets, Atonement, and Tabernacles — unfolded in harmony with the heavens.
Yet today, most of the world runs on a system that does not consult the heavens at all. Our months no longer begin with a new moon. Our “new year” is set arbitrarily. Our Sabbaths repeat on a man-made cycle disconnected from the lunar phases. And as a result, the appointed times of Yahuwah יְהוָה — the very markers of His covenant with His people — have been hidden in plain sight.
This did not happen by accident.
It is no small thing that Scripture foretold this change. In a vision about a power that would rise against Yahuwah’s יְהוָה people, the prophet Daniel warned:
Daniel 7:25
“And he shall speak great words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.”
What Daniel foresaw was not merely the alteration of laws — it was the alteration of time itself. A counterfeit system would arise, one that removed the Creator’s calendar from the lives of His people and replaced it with something that looked orderly and universal but was not rooted in creation. And once the rhythm of creation was broken, the moedim — those sacred markers of Yahuwah’s יְהוָה plan — would fade from view.
This is the story of how that happened.
The Break from the Heavens: How Rome Rewrote Time and Erased Yahuwah’s Calendar
When Yahuwah יְהוָה established time in Genesis, He built it on a threefold celestial witness:
- The sun – governing the days and seasons.
- The moon – marking the months and resetting the weekly cycle.
- The stars – anchoring the appointed times (moedim) within the annual cycle.
This calendar was not a Hebrew invention; it was the Creator’s design for all humanity. All ancient civilizations once looked upward to reckon time. Months began with the visible new crescent, seasons were aligned with the solstices and equinoxes, and Sabbaths and festivals were tied to lunar rhythms. Every month began with a New Moon Day — a sacred day of worship set apart from both the six working days and the weekly Sabbaths (Ezekiel 46:3, Amos 8:5).
But over centuries, this divine system was replaced by one of human invention.
From Celestial Order to Human Convention
A major rupture came in 45 BCE, when Julius Caesar introduced the Julian calendar, replacing the lunar-based Roman system with a purely solar calendar — twelve fixed months totaling 365¼ days.
- Months no longer began with the new moon.
- They became arbitrary blocks of time named after pagan gods and emperors.
This was no minor adjustment; it was a deliberate departure from the heavens. Humanity began to reckon time without looking up.
Luke 21:25–28
“And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
The shift had profound consequences. New Moon Days vanished from public life. Where once the first visible crescent reset the count of days and Sabbaths, months now began on fixed dates divorced from the heavens.
- The seven-day work cycle became endless and unanchored, no longer restarting after New Moon Day.
- Days began to overlap the original days Yahuwah יְהוָה had established, so the “seventh day” of man’s calendar is not necessarily the seventh day according to the Creator’s.
The Rise of Rome’s Calendar Power
By the 4th century CE, Emperor Constantine and the Council of Nicaea (AD 325) deepened the divide. They detached Passover from the biblical calendar, fixing the new Christian festival of Easter — a pagan observance — to a Sunday date calculated independently of the new moon but kept roughly near the original time. This was not merely a scheduling change; it was an ideological break from the calendar Yahuwah יְהוָה established.
At the Council of Nicaea, the Church openly declared its intention to separate itself from the biblical reckoning of time and from the people entrusted with preserving it:
At the Council of Nice [Nicaea] the last thread was snapped which connected Christianity to its parent stock. The festival of Easter had up till now been celebrated for the most part at the same time as the Jewish Passover, and indeed upon the days calculated and fixed by the Synhedrion [Sanhedrin] in Judæa for its celebration; but in future its observance was to be rendered altogether independent of the Jewish calendar,
‘For it is unbecoming beyond measure that on this holiest of festivals we should follow the customs of the Jews. Henceforward let us have nothing in common with this odious people; our Saviour has shown us another path. It would indeed be absurd if the Jews were able to boast that we are not in a position to celebrate the Passover without the aid of their rules (calculations).’”
— Emperor Constantine, Council of Nicaea, AD 325
This statement reveals the spirit behind the change: it was not about truth or faithfulness to Scripture, but about asserting authority and severing the Church from the biblical calendar. From that point forward, the Church claimed the power to determine “sacred time” apart from Yahuwah’s יְהוָה signs in the heavens.
This severed the days and thus the moedim from Yahuwah’s יְהוָה calendar, moving Passover, Unleavened Bread, and First Fruits to times no longer aligned with the Creator’s signs.
Then, in 1582, Pope Gregory XIII introduced the Gregorian calendar, refining the Julian system to fix its drift against the solar year. This is the system the whole world now follows. It is practical, predictable, and universal — but completely detached from Yahuwah’s יְהוָה design.
- Months now begin at midnight on arbitrary dates, not with the new moon.
- The weekly cycle runs without any connection to lunar rhythms.
- The “new year” begins on January 1, a date unanchored to any celestial event.
This disconnection has obscured the appointed times that were once obvious to anyone who looked at the sky to the point that people no longer know when these times are, and no longer know his Sabbaths.
Isaiah 55:8-9
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
Humanity’s calendar no longer speaks the language of creation.
Psalm 104:19
“He appointed the moon for seasons [moedim]; the sun knows its going down.”
The Hebrew word for seasons here is moedim — the same word used in Leviticus 23 for Yahuwah’s appointed times. The moon is not incidental to Yahuwah’s יְהוָה calendar; it is foundational. Remove it, and the moedim become hidden — and man’s Sabbaths and feast days no longer align with the ones Yahuwah יְהוָה set apart.

The Vanishing of the New Moon and the Overlapping of Days
This shift from the lunar-based system caused more than the disappearance of New Moon Days — it altered the very structure of time. New moons once marked the start of each month and reset the weekly cycle. When they were removed:
- The first day of the month became fixed and disconnected from the heavens.
- The weekly cycle continued endlessly, with no reset to align it with the Creator’s design.
- The so-called “seventh day” Sabbath drifted from the true seventh day, creating overlapping and misaligned cycles of time.
As a result, what the world now calls “Saturday” is not guaranteed to be the Sabbath established in creation. The days themselves have shifted out of phase with the original order Yahuwah יְהוָה declared.
The Man-Made Date Line: A Modern Example of Artificial Time
One of the most revealing illustrations of how far man’s time has drifted from Yahuwah’s יְהוָה is the International Date Line — an imaginary boundary drawn across the Pacific Ocean in the 19th century. Cross it eastward and you “go back” a day; cross westward and you “jump forward.” Yet nothing in the heavens changes. The sun, moon, and stars remain exactly the same. And yet, by human decree alone, what is called Saturday on one side is called Sunday on the other.

To understand the full weight of this artificial system, imagine two groups of people leaving the same location on earth — one walking eastward, the other westward — both carefully counting days as they go. If they use the Gregorian calendar, something remarkable and troubling happens:
- When they meet halfway around the globe, one group will be one full day ahead of the other, even though both have counted the days accurately according to their watches and calendars.
- By the time they return to their starting point, their counts will differ by two full days — despite the fact that the sun has risen and set the same number of times for both groups.
This reveals the truth: man’s calendar is not anchored in the heavens. It relies on arbitrary human constructs — like the International Date Line — that fracture time into artificial segments and cause the very concept of “day” to vary by location. It is just one of the reasons we were given the clock in the heavens. To maintain time and to know His appointments.
Now consider the same journey, but this time the travellers are using the calendar Yahuwah יְהוָה gave in Genesis — a calendar rooted not in imaginary lines but in the movements of the sun and moon:
- The days would remain in perfect sync no matter which direction they walked, because days are not defined by longitude but by the rising and setting of the sun.
- The months would remain aligned globally because they would be reset by the visible new moon, which is the same celestial event no matter where one stands on earth.
- Even if the two groups circled the earth multiple times, they would arrive back at their starting point on exactly the same day — the same Sabbath, the same new moon, the same appointed times.
This is the profound difference between Yahuwah’s יְהוָה time and man’s time. One is written in the heavens — fixed, universal, and immune to human tampering. The other is drawn on paper and subject to revision by emperors, popes, and politicians.
Genesis 1:14
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons [moedim], and for days, and years.”
His time is written where no empire can redraw it — in the sun, the moon, and the stars. Man’s calendar may shift imaginary lines, rename days after pagan gods, and redefine months — but the heavens never change. And those who walk according to Yahuwah’s יְהוָה calendar walk in step with His appointed times, regardless of where they are on earth.
Pagan Names, Pagan Days
Even the names of the days themselves testify to Rome’s influence — each one rooted in pagan worship:
- Sunday – day of the sun god
- Monday – day of the moon goddess
- Tuesday – day of Tyr/Mars, god of war
- Wednesday – day of Woden/Mercury
- Thursday – day of Thor, god of thunder
- Friday – day of Frigg/Venus, goddess of love
- Saturday – day of Saturn, god of agriculture
This naming system — utterly foreign to Scripture — became the standard across Christendom and remains so to this day. Yet Yahuwah יְהוָה commanded:
Exodus 23:13
“And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.”
How far we have fallen from that command when the very days we speak — the rhythm of our weeks — proclaim the names of false deities. This is not merely historical trivia; it reveals how deeply the Roman system replaced the Creator’s design with one centered on pagan worship and imperial authority.
The Roman emperor himself bore the title Pontifex Maximus, a title still held by the Pope today. He is called the “Vicar of Christ” and “Holy Father” — titles Yahshua יֵשׁוּעַ explicitly forbade applying to men:
Matthew 23:8–9
“But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.”
Even Rome Admits It
This paganisation of time was not accidental or hidden — even Rome herself has long admitted both the authority by which she changed sacred time and the fact that the very structure of the calendar was altered.
Mgr. Segur admitted this plainly:
“The observance of Sunday by the Protestants is an homage they pay, in spite of themselves, to the authority of the [Catholic] Church.”
— Plain Talk About the Protestantism of Today, p. 213
But the deeper truth goes far beyond simply changing the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday. Catholic apologist Patrick Madrid revealed this openly on EWTN Radio in 2006:
“Our calendar that we follow, including Seventh-day Adventists, is not only a calendar that was devised by the Catholic Church, but also one based on the solar year, not the lunar year. Even the Seventh-day Adventists themselves are not worshiping on exactly the same Sabbath day as the Jews of the time of Christ, because it’s several days off now, having switched from following the lunar calendar.”
The Catholic Encyclopedia (Vol. 3, “Chronology,” 1908) acknowledges the same fundamental shift:
“The Church accepted the civil calendar of the Roman Empire, abandoning the ancient lunar reckoning of months, and adapted her feasts to the solar year as reformed by Julius Caesar and corrected by Gregory XIII.”
A statement from The Catholic Mirror (1893) goes even further, noting that:
“The Catholic Church, of her own authority, substituted the observance of Sunday for Saturday and, by the same authority, transferred the weekly cycle itself from the lunar to the solar reckoning.”
And Jesuit theologian Robert Bellarmine boldly declared:
“The authority of the Church stands above that of the calendar and the computation of days, for she has changed the order of time itself to suit the mystery of Christ.”
These admissions lay bare the full extent of Rome’s alterations. This was not merely a shift of one day to another — it was a complete overhaul of the biblical structure of time. The lunar-based months, new moon resets, and Sabbaths tied to Yahuwah’s יְהוָה signs in the heavens were discarded. In their place arose a man-made, solar-only system built on continuous weeks and planetary god names — one that obscures the Creator’s calendar entirely.
When time itself is rewritten, the appointed times — Yahuwah’s יְהוָה moedim — vanish from view. And when the true rhythm of creation is hidden, humanity loses its connection to the very signs Yahuwah יְהוָה placed in the heavens “for seasons [moedim], and for days, and years” (Genesis 1:14).
The Prophetic Consequences of Man’s Calendar – and the Call to Return
The shift from Yahuwah’s יְהוָה calendar to man’s solar-based system is not just a historical footnote — it is one of the most consequential spiritual deceptions in history. It has not merely changed how humanity counts days; it has altered how we perceive time itself, severing us from the divine appointments written in the heavens. And this rupture has profound prophetic consequences.
The Bride Must Be on the Bridegroom’s Timetable
Scripture portrays Yahshua’s יֵשׁוּעַ return in deeply relational terms — as a Bridegroom coming for His Bride. But a bride who does not know the timing of the wedding cannot prepare herself to meet the Bridegroom. She may adorn herself beautifully, but if she arrives a day late, she has missed the event entirely.
This is the sober warning of Yahshua’s יֵשׁוּעַ parable of the ten virgins:
Matthew 25:1–13
“Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.
Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out.
But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us and you: but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door was shut.
Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.”
Oil is more than just faith or the Spirit — it is also discernment, readiness, and alignment with Yahuwah’s יְהוָה timing. A bride who arrives a day late — even with good intentions — has missed the wedding. In the same way, a people who cling to man-made time will not be where they are meant to be when the King calls His people to gather.
If you do not know His appointed times, how can you hope to meet Him at His appointed times? Each moed is a rehearsal — a yearly preparation for the real event. To keep them on the wrong days is to rehearse the wrong wedding.
Blinded by the System – The Covering Over All Nations
The tragedy is that this deception is not limited to one denomination or tradition. Because nearly all of the world’s religions — even those that oppose Rome — use the same Roman system of time, the blindfold is universal. Pagan calendars and ecclesiastical decrees have united the world in error. The Roman Church may have introduced the system, but it now governs Protestantism, Islam, secularism, and even the modern state of Israel.
The prophet Isaiah foresaw a time when such a veil would cover the nations — a blindness that would obscure truth until Yahuwah יְהוָה removes it:
Isaiah 25:7–8
“And he will destroy in this mountain the face of the covering cast over all people, and the veil that is spread over all nations.
He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord Yahuwah יְהוָה will wipe away tears from off all faces…”
This veil is not just ignorance — it is also the false time system itself. It blinds humanity to the Creator’s signs and hides the moedim from view. And as long as we walk by it, we remain out of sync with Heaven.
Paul likewise warned that this blindness would persist until the end:
2 Corinthians 4:4
“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”
This “blinding” is not only about doctrine — it is also about timing. It is the enemy’s strategy to ensure that when Yahuwah יְהוָה calls His people to assemble, they are on the wrong day, looking in the wrong direction.
The Final Restoration of Time
Prophecy tells us that Yahuwah יְהוָה will restore His calendar before the end. Daniel was shown that human power would “think to change times and laws” (Daniel 7:25), but this would not last forever. The moedim — hidden and obscured for centuries — will once again become visible and central to the lives of His people.
Isaiah 66:22–23
“For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith Yahuwah יְהוָה, so shall your seed and your name remain.
And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith Yahuwah יְהוָה.”
In the new creation, time will once again be marked by new moons and Sabbaths — just as it was in the beginning. This is not a relic of the past; it is the future reality of the Kingdom.
The Call to Return
The call of this hour is not only to repent of sin but to repent of false time. To return to Yahuwah’s יְהוָה ways is to return to His calendar — the one written in the heavens, not on papal decrees or political maps.
The moedim are not merely “Jewish feasts.” They are the Creator’s appointed times with His people — rehearsals of redemption, markers of prophetic events, and the very rhythm of Heaven’s plan. They reveal the Messiah’s work past, present, and future — and they prepare the Bride to meet the Bridegroom on time.
Revelation describes a remnant who will stand faithfully in the end — those who reject man’s system and return fully to Yahuwah’s יְהוָה ways:
Revelation 14:12
“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Yahshua. יֵשׁוּעַ”
The question is not whether Yahuwah יְהוָה will keep His appointments. The question is whether we will be there when He does.
The Call to Return
The shift from Yahuwah’s יְהוָה calendar to man’s has not been a harmless change of dates — it has been one of the greatest deceptions in human history. It has hidden Yahuwah’s יְהוָה appointed times, buried His Sabbaths beneath layers of human tradition, and blinded the eyes of nations and churches alike to the true rhythm of heaven.
Through the prophet Jeremiah, Yahuwah יְהוָה issues a timeless call:
Jeremiah 6:16
“Thus says Yahuwah יְהוָה: Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where the good way is, and walk in it; then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’”
This rebellion continues today. The world clings to a man-made system of time — one devised by emperors and sanctioned by popes — while the divine order written in the heavens is ignored. Most do not even realize that their Sabbaths, their “holy days,” and their calendars are out of sync with the Creator’s design. And because of this blindness, the Bride is unprepared for the Bridegroom.
Preparation is not merely moral — it is temporal. Yahuwah’s יְהוָה moedim are appointments, not suggestions. They are set times when heaven and earth meet. If we do not know when they occur, how can we hope to be there when He calls?
Yahshua יֵשׁוּעַ warned of this through the parable of the ten virgins. The oil is more than faith or the Spirit — it is also discernment, readiness, and alignment with Yahuwah’s יְהוָה timing. A bride who arrives a day late — even with good intentions — has missed the wedding. In the same way, a people who cling to man-made time will not be where they are meant to be when the King calls His people to gather. If you do not know His appointed times, how can you hope to meet Him at them? Each year is a rehearsal for the great fulfillment to come.
The deception is global. It is not only the Roman Church that walks in this man-made time, but every denomination, sect, and religion that has submitted to the Gregorian system. This is what makes the deception so complete — the blindfold is woven into the very fabric of time itself. And as Scripture warns:
2 Corinthians 4:4
“The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Messiah, who is the image of God.”
But Yahuwah יְהוָה is calling His people to awaken, to cast off the counterfeit, and to return to the rhythm He wrote into creation itself — the sun, the moon, and the stars. It is time to reject the authority of emperors and councils and to walk once more in step with the Creator’s calendar.
Revelation 18:4
“Come out of her, My people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.”
This is not just a call to tweak your calendar. It is a call to repent and return — to align your life with Yahuwah’s יְהוָה appointments and to prepare for the King’s return. The Bride must be on the Bridegroom’s timetable. The people of Yah must be ready on His day, not man’s.
The heavens still declare His glory. The sun still governs the day. The moon still marks the moedim. The stars still anchor His appointed times. And the voice of Yahuwah יְהוָה still calls: “Ask for the ancient paths… and walk in them.”
Those who hear will not be found sleeping when the cry goes out. They will have oil in their lamps. They will know the hour. And they will be ready when the Bridegroom comes.
