The commandments in the renewed covenant

The renewed covenant says:

1 Corinthians 7:19
19 For circumcision is nothing and counts for nothing, neither does uncircumcision, but [what counts is] keeping the commandments of Yahuwah.

The commandments are something we are called to keep. They are found throughout the renewed covenant. Here are some listing which you may find of use.

Number 1

From the old covenant:

Exodus 20:2-3
2 “I am Yahuwah thy Elohim, who has brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.
3 “You shall have no other elohim before Me.

From the renewed covenant:

Matthew 4:10
10 Then Yahushua said to him, “Go away, Satan! For it is written and forever remains written, ‘You shall worship Yahuwah thy Elohim, and serve Him only.’

Number 2

Exodus 20:4-6
4 “You shall not make for yourself any idol, or any likeness (form, manifestation) of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not worship them nor serve them; for I, Yahuwah thy Elohim, am a jealous (impassioned) Elohim [demanding what is rightfully and uniquely mine], visiting (avenging) the iniquity (sin, guilt) of the fathers on the children [that is, calling the children to account for the sins of their fathers], to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,
6 but showing graciousness and steadfast lovingkindness to thousands [of generations] of those who love Me and keep My commandments

1 John 5:21
21 Little children (believers, dear ones), guard yourselves from idols.

Number 3

Exodus 20:7
7 “You shall not take the name of  Yahuwah thy Elohim in vain [that is, irreverently, in false affirmations or in ways that impugn the character of Yahuwah]; for Yahuwah will not hold guiltless nor leave unpunished the one who takes His name in vain [disregarding its reverence and its power].

1 Timothy 6:1
All who are under the yoke as bond-servants (slaves) are to regard their own masters as worthy of honour and respect so that the name of Yahuwah and the teaching [about Him] will not be spoken against.

Number 4

Exodus 20:8-11
8 “Remember the Sabbath (seventh) day to keep it holy (set apart, dedicated to Yahuwah). 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath [a day of rest dedicated] to Yahuwah thy Elohim; on that day you shall not do any work, you or your son, or your daughter, or your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock or the temporary resident (foreigner) who stays within your [city] gates.
11 For in six days Yahuwah made the heavens and the earth, the sea and everything that is in them, and He rested (ceased) on the seventh day. That is why Yahuwah blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy [that is, set it apart for His purposes].

Hebrews 4:4,9-10
4 For somewhere [in Scripture] He has said this about the seventh day: “And Yahuwah rested on the seventh day from all His works”;

9 So there remains a [full and complete] Sabbath rest for the people of Yahuwah.
10 For the one who has once entered His rest has also rested from [the weariness and pain of] his [human] laborus, just as Yahuwah rested from [those labors uniquely] His own.

Number 5

Exodus 20:12
12 “Honour (respect, obey, care for) your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged in the land that Yahuwah your Elohim gives you.

Matthew 19:19
19 Honour your father and mother; and love your neighbour as yourself.

Number 6

Exodus 20:13
13 You shall not commit murder.

Romans 13:9
9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,” and any other commandment are summed up in this statement: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

Number 7

Exodus 20:14
14 “You shall not commit adultery.

Matthew 19:18
18 He said to Yahushua, “Which commandments?” And Yahushua answered, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not give false testimony; 19 Honour your father and mother; and love your neighbour as yourself” [that is, unselfishly seek the best or higher good for others].

Number 8

Exodus 20:15
15 “You shall not steal.

Romans 13:9
9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,” and any other commandment are summed up in this statement: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

Number 9

Exodus 20:16
16 “You shall not testify falsely [that is, lie, withhold, or manipulate the truth] against your neighbour (any person).

Romans 13:9
9 The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not covet,” and any other commandment are summed up in this statement: “You shall love your neighbour as yourself.”

Number 10

Exodus 20:17
17 “You shall not covet [that is, selfishly desire and attempt to acquire] your neighbour’s house; you shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbour.”

Romans 7:7
7 What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, if it had not been for the Law, I would not have recognised sin. For I would not have known [for example] about coveting [what belongs to another, and would have had no sense of guilt] if the Law had not [repeatedly] said, “You shall not covet.”

Yahuwah provided us with His commandments that we may know and understand Him. His commandments are not burdensome. Yahushua came to fulfill His requirements of meeting the law and dying for us. It is not an excuse to do whatever we wish, but it is a gift of eternal life should one choose to walk as He walked.

1 John 2:3-4
And this is how we may discern [daily, by experience] that we are coming to know Him [to perceive, recognize, understand, and become better acquainted with Him]: if we keep (bear in mind, observe, practice) His teachings (precepts, commandments).
Whoever says, I know Him [I perceive, recognise, understand, and am acquainted with Him] but fails to keep and obey His commandments (teachings) is a liar, and the Truth is not in him.

1 John 5
By this we come to know (recognize and understand) that we love the children of Yahuwah: when we love Yahuwah and obey His commandments.
For the [true] love of Yahuwah is this: that we do His commands. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous).

Matthew 5
17 Do not think that I have come to do away with or undo the Law or the Prophets; I have come not to do away with or undo but to complete and fulfill them.
18 For truly I tell you, until the sky and earth pass away and perish, not one smallest letter nor one little hook [identifying certain Hebrew letters] will pass from the Law until all things [it foreshadows] are accomplished.
19 Whoever then breaks or does away with or relaxes one of the least [important] of these commandments and teaches men so shall be called least [important] in the kingdom of heaven, but he who practices them and teaches others to do so shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness (your uprightness and your right standing with Yahuwah) is more than that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.

There is coming a time when those who follow the commandments of Yahuwah shall be protected, but those relations who do not follow the commandments shall be persecuted.

Revelation 12
17 So then the dragon was furious (enraged) at the woman, and he went away to wage war on the remainder of her descendants of those who obey Yahuwah’s commandments and who have the testimony of Yahushua HaMaschiach [and adhere to it and bear witness to Him].
