Woe Woe Woe

In Revelation 8:13 straight after the fourth trumpet, we read a warning of things which are going to occur next. It is signified by three woes.

I looked, and I heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, “Woe, woe, woe to the inhabitants of the earth, because of the remaining blasts of the trumpet of the three angels who are about to sound!” – Revelation 8:13

A woe is defined as a great sorrow or distress. It is represented by a time of trouble. Here we have three of them listed. But why? Why have these woes?

Today the world has turned from Yahuwah. They do not acknowledge Him. They turn their back to Him. They walk in their own way. They follow their own dreams and have no time to spend with their creator. No time to learn things He has to teach us. They have rejected Him and are looking towards another.

Some do this on purpose. They want nothing to do with Elohim. Others do it by accident. They do not see clearly at the moment. Their eyes have been covered. To them it is like looking at something through an unclear lens. Some do it because they have fallen in love with their religion, even though if they looked, they would find that their religion is not following after Him.

That is really difficult for some. When the passion of their pastor, or other members they fellowship with, place pressure upon them such that they are no longer willing to look beyond the things their religon teaches, and just look at what His word has to say.

I prime example I read today in an article published in a magazine called Tomorrows World (Nov-Dec 2020) which is entitled Holidays vs Holy days.

In the article is has a section in bold which says the following:

But you may read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation, and you will not find a single line authorizing the sanctification of Sunday. The Scriptures enforce the religious observance of Saturday….”

Now to those who are not familiar with how a calendar works, I can understand this viewpoint. For upon the Gregorian calendar, the day count starts with Sunday and ends upon Saturday. Thus the first day is Sunday and the seventh day is Saturday. When you look at it from this point of view, you can understand how they then justify the quote above.

⁸ “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. ⁹ Six days you shall labor and do all your work, ¹⁰ but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Yahuwah thy Elohim. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. ¹¹ For in six days Yahuwah made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore Yahuwah blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:8-11

They then go on to look at how the Romans changed the Day of observance from Saturday to Sunday. There are a number of interesting quotes that they do provide such as:

Let all magistrates and people of the city, and all who work as artisans, rest on the venerable day of the sun”

Roman Emperor Constantine in 321AD – The new Schaff-Herzog Encylopeadia of Religous Knowledge, 1911, vol. 11, p. 147)

Turtullian (202[AD]) is the first writer who expressly mentions the Sunday rest: “We however (just as tradition has taught us), on the day of the Lord’s resurrection, ought to guard not only against kneeling, but every posture and office of solitude, deferring even our businesses lest we give any place to the devil”

So this may all sound good until you dig a little further. You see the Roman catholic church also admits that the calendar that they use is not the calendar found in the scriptures, but rather is man made and that those who use it, yes, those who observe Saturday as well, are not following Yahuwah, but are instead following Rome, just on a different day.

On January 5, 2006, Roman Catholic scholar and apologist, Patrick Madrid, made a startling statement of which every person who loves the true Sabbath should be aware. EWTN, Global Catholic Radio Network, hosts a call-in radio show entitled Open Line. A listener called in with a question regarding the allegation that the Catholic Church has changed the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday.

Madrid stated that the current Saturday is not the original Biblical Sabbath but that the change made by the Catholic Church was actually one of calendation. Following is a transcript of his statements.

Well, what we have to remember is, first of all what Jesus said: He said don’t forget that man was not made for the Sabbath; the Sabbath was made for man. And, the Lord Himself, we’re told, was the Lord of the Sabbath, so He had the authority, in areas as far as how we would observe that commandment.

What your brother-in-law may not understand is that the Catholic Church did not change that commandment. The Catholic Church observes the commandment to keep holy the Lo- . . . the Sabbath, but it does so on the Lord’s Day, and the earliest Christians transferred their observance of that commandment from Saturday to Sunday.

First of all, because there was a distinct break between the Old Testament requirements: the rituals and Mosaic covenant demands dealing with the Sabbath worship and animal sacrifices, and that sort of thing. And they wanted to show that Christianity was distinct from Judaism. It came from Judaism, but it was distinct from it. Uh, celebrating the Lord’s coming, I’m sorry, celebrating the Lord’s resurrection and death on the day that He rose from the dead seemed to be the most appropriate.

Uh, the other thing that we should remember, too, is that our calendar that we follow, including Seventh-day Adventists, is not only a calendar that was devised by the Catholic Church, but also it is a calendar that’s based upon the solar year, not the lunar year. And the Jewish calendar that was observed in the time of Christ is, follows a lunar calendar, which is several days short of the solar calendar.

So the great irony is that even the Seventh-day Adventists themselves are not worshiping on exactly the same Sabbath day as the Jews of the time of Christ, because it’s several days off now, uh, having, uh, switched to [from?] following the lunar calendar.

Now some may be saying, yes, however the seventh day of the week is Saturday. Well it was never that way to start with. Sure. The seventh day of the calendar of Rome is Saturday. However the Roman calendar uses a man made date line to count from. It does this continuously never stopping for a break.

However if you take a moment to look at the scriptures, you will find another day mentioned that does not exist upon the Roman calendar. It shows that there are in fact 2 different calendars here.

The calendar we find in the Bible starts upon a day known as New Moon Day. That day is not a work day. It is never a work day. However, if you look at the Roman calendar, that day does not exist. In fact the majority of new moon days will land upon a work day using the Roman calendar.

The other difference is hinted at by Patrick Madrid above. Parick is not aware that the calendar in the Bible is what is termed a Luni-solar calendar. The difference is stark. For example the Roman calendar, which is a solar only calendar, has to use a man made date line to determine when a day starts and ends. It is interesting to note the issue that the Seventh day adventists had recently trying to decide what to do when they moved the date line in Samoa. Should they worship Saturday or Sunday (which used to be Saturday)??

If they looked further into the issue, they would have found that upon the calendar in the Bible, the day count was started from where the new moon was sighted. If you take a look you will discover that this is presently changing from month to month. So one month the day count will start in China, then the next month the USA then the next month Australia.

Yahuwah NEVER set a man made date line for us to use. He sets the Sun, moon and the stars to know His appointed times. The moon sets the counting of these.

He created the moon for the appointed times. The sun knows the place of its setting.

The appointed times are the all listed in Leviticus 23, of which the Sabbath is included.

This is why the whole world walks after the beast and there are only 144,000 who follow the commandments of Yahuwah.
