An introductory video of the Sabbath in scripture

I made this video as some people may not have the time to go through the full video. This video covers a smaller number of witnesses than the full video which is seen in the first post.

May Yahuwah bless you as you learn.

  1. Yes you are right about when a Sabbath day started.
However no where in the new covenant are we commanded to keep the Sabbath.

What you failed to mention are ALL the following scriptures in the new covenant that CLEARLY states the we are not commanded to keep the Sabbath.
    Colossians 2:14-17
14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
15 And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Yahusha Ha Mashiach.

Romans 14:5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.

Ephesians 2:15 by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations. His purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace,

    Galatians 4:9-11
9 But now that you know Yahuah —or rather are known by Yahuah-how is it that you are turning back to those weak and miserable forces? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? 10 You are observing special days and months and seasons and years! 11 I fear for you, that somehow I have wasted my efforts on you.

    Romans 14:1-8 (note verse 5.)
    The Weak and the Strong
1 Accept the one whose faith is weak, without quarreling over disputable matters.
2 One person’s faith allows them to eat anything, but another, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables.
3 The one who eats everything must not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for Yahuah has accepted them. 4 Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To their own master, servants stand or fall. And they will stand, for Yahuah is able to make them stand.
5 One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind. 6 Whoever regards one day as special does so Yahuah.
Whoever eats meat does so to Yahuah.for they give thanks to Elohiym and whoever abstains does so to Yahuah and gives thanks to Elohiym.
7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone.
8 If we live, we live for Yahuah;and if we die, we die for Yahuah. So, whether we live or die, we belong to Yahuah .

    Matt 19:16-21
The Rich and the Kingdom of Yahuah.
16 Just then a man came up to Yahusha and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”
17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Yahusha replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”
    18 “Which ones?” he inquired.
Yahusha replied, “‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother, and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’
20 “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?”
21 Yahusha answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”

Why didn’t Yahusha mention the Sabbath day??

Acts 15:5-19 New International Version (NIV)
5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Moses.”
6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question. 7 After much discussion, Peter got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe. 8 God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. 9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. 10 Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? 11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”
12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Paul telling about the signs and wonders God had done among the Gentiles through them. 13 When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me. 14 Simon[a] has described to us how God first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:
    16
    “‘After this I will return
        and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
    Its ruins I will rebuild,
        and I will restore it,
    17
that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
says the Lord, who does these things’[b]—
    18
        things known from long ago.[c]
19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

    Acts 15:5-19
5 Then some of the believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees stood up and said, “The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to keep the law of Mosheh.”
6 The apostles and elders met to consider this question.
7 After much discussion, Kepha got up and addressed them: “Brothers, you know that some time ago Yahuah made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips the message of the gospel and believe.
8 Yahuah,who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Ruach HaQodesh to them, just as he did to us.
9 He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith.
10 Now then, why do you try to test Yahuah by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?
11 No! We believe it is through the grace of our Master Yahusha that we are saved, just as they are.”
12 The whole assembly became silent as they listened to Barnabas and Shaul telling about the signs and wonders Yahuah had done among the Gentiles through them.
13 When they finished, Ya’aqov spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me.
14 Shimon has described to us how Yahuah first intervened to choose a people for his name from the Gentiles. 15 The words of the prophets are in agreement with this, as it is written:
    16
    “‘After this I will return
        and rebuild David’s fallen tent.
    Its ruins I will rebuild,
        and I will restore it,
    17
that the rest of mankind may seek Yahuah,
even all the Gentiles who bear my name,
    says Yahuah,who does these things’
    18
        things known from long ago.
19 “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to Yahuah.
20 Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood.

Where’s the Law of the Sabbath day?

    1. Hello Kevin,

Yahuwah gave us His Ten commandments. They have not changed. There is not one scripture that says the Sabbath is abolished. Not one. Yahshua told us to do as He did.

      John 13:15
15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. 16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him. 17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.

      Acts 16:13
And on the Sabbath day we went out of the city to the riverside, where prayer was customarily made; and we sat down and spoke to the women who met there.

      Mark 2:23-38
Now it happened that He went through the grainfields on the Sabbath; and as they went His disciples began to pluck the heads of grain. And the Pharisees said to Him, “Look, why do they do what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” But He said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he was in need and hungry, he and those with him: how he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat except for the priests, and also gave some to those who were with him?” And He said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore the Son of Man is also Lord of the Sabbath.”

      Luke 4:16
So He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read.

There are sooo many more examples in the new testament of them keeping the Sabbath.

Further, in the book of Revelation there are only 144,000 people who are indeed keeping His commandments of which the Sabbath is one of them.

      Revelation 12:17
7 And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of Yahuwah and have the testimony of Yahshua.

      and again in Revelation 14:12
12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of Yahuwah and the faith of Yahshua.

So for people to be keeping His commandments in Revelation, that simply means your understanding of those scriptures is wrong. For Yahuwah says in Malachi 3:6

      “For I am Yahuwah and I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.”

Bit hard for us to say He changed His mind after Yahshua died now isn’t it?

      And Yahshua said:

      Matthew 5:17-19
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.
18 For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.
19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

So be careful saying that He abolished the Sabbath.

I have addressed Colossians 2:16. Your English translation has not assisted you.

      You have it listed as:

16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.

      However it actually says:

      Colossians 2:16
16 Therefore let no one judge you in eating and in drinking; either when partaking of an appointed time or new moon or Sabbaths.

The scripture is not about keeping the Sabbath or New moon. Rather it is about what you eat and drink on those days.

And I can prove it as well:
      https://calendarofscripture.com/2015/06/12/let-no-man-judge-you-in-sabbath-keeping-colossians-216/

Romans 14:5 is just telling you bout the issue they experienced when they went looking for the new moon. Some people could see it. Some people could not. And this varied depending up where you lived. And to be honest it is perfectly normal for the new moon to be sometimes seen easily and other times it is harder. They were not using the Roman calendar then. They were using a luni solar calendar. So you need to apply that phrase to the calendar system they were using.

      Ephesians 2:15 is very simple.

You have read it as this:

      Ephesians 2:15
by setting aside in his flesh the law with its commands and regulations…

However other translations show it understood differently in English:
      Ephesian 2:15 (ESV)
15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances….

The ordinances were all the other rules and regulations that Israel received. They were not the Ten Commandments. These two were given seperately.

Galatians 4:9-11 is about the people turning their backs on Yahuwah. Worshipping their own gods. It has nothing to do with the Sabbath day of Yahuwah.

Romans 14:1-8 (note verse 5.) (Already addressed above)

Matt 19:16-21 – You asked: Why didn’t Yahusha mention the Sabbath day??

But he did! Right here: ->>If you want to enter life, keep the commandments <<- The Sabbath is one of those commandments. When He was talking to the rich man, he focussed upon the last six commandments. And that is because they are to do with how he – being a wealthy person – helps his fellow man. The first four commandments were never mentioned and they are all to do with Elohim.

Acts 15:5-9 is not about the Sabbath. It is about circumcision of the flesh vs circumcision of the heart. There are many commandments not spoken of here. Why would anyone decide that because it was not mentioned, that it is no longer relevant?

It was known from long ago that we are to keep the Sabbath (vs 17). Hence what Yahshua said in Matthew 5:17-19. He did not come to abolish them.

I challenge you again to find one scripture that says the Sabbath Commandment is abolished. I have read the scriptures. It does not exist.
You cannot have one scripture saying at the second coming that these are they that keep the commandments (inclusive) when you exclude one of them.

For "whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven".

      Yahuwah Bless

    2. Thank you for sharing these points. Let’s examine these passages and interpretations more closely, especially regarding how the Sabbath commandment is understood within the New Testament and its continuity in prophecy.

The Sabbath and the Commandments in Revelation

The book of Revelation provides compelling evidence that the Sabbath is upheld by those who follow Yahuah’s commandments. Revelation 14:12 states, “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus.” Furthermore, the 144,000 in Revelation 7 and 14 are described as followers who keep Yahuah’s commandments, which include the Sabbath (Exodus 20:8-11). The continuity of this commandment among Yahuah’s people is significant, as it aligns with the portrayal of those faithful in the end times.

The Mark of God vs. the Mark of the Beast

Ezekiel 20:12 describes the Sabbath as a distinctive sign for Yahuah’s people: “Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord that sanctify them.” This sign represents allegiance and faithfulness to Yahuah. In Revelation, this mark of allegiance is contrasted with the mark of the beast, symbolizing rebellion against Yahuah’s commandments. The Sabbath, as a sign of Yahuah’s covenant, remains a mark of those who choose to align themselves with Him rather than with worldly systems.

      Understanding Colossians 2:16 in Context

Colossians 2:16 is often cited by those suggesting that Yahuah’s Sabbath commandment is no longer binding. At first glance, it may seem that Paul is dismissing the need for holy days or Sabbaths. However, a closer look at the context and original language offers clarity:

“Therefore let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or Sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:16-17)

In this passage, Paul addresses the specific practices of believers in Colossae, regarding dietary custom with respect to festivals, and Sabbaths. His message here is not about dismissing the Sabbath but addressing the judgment imposed on believers for how they observe these appointed times. A key point in understanding this is the original Greek phrasing, which connects “eating and drinking” with these observances. This indicates that Paul is addressing how believers partook in these observances, not whether they should continue them.

In a more accurate translation, the passage would read:

“Therefore let no one judge you in eating and drinking; either when partaking of an appointed time, or a new moon, or Sabbaths.”

This structure emphasizes that Paul is cautioning against judgment related to how believers eat or drink during holy times, rather than negating the observance of these days themselves. Paul’s intent was to affirm these practices, clarifying that they are “shadows of things to come,” with Yahusha embodying their ultimate fulfillment. (A video link which shows this ext in the original format is below).

      Paul’s Intent Regarding the Sabbath

Paul, a Sabbath keeper himself (Acts 17:2; Acts 18:4), never suggests that the Sabbath is abolished. Instead, he encourages believers to:

      * Continue observing Yahuah’s appointed times as meaningful “shadows” pointing to Yahusha.
      * Resist judgment on how they observe these holy times, upholding these practices as valuable and prophetic rather than obsolete.

Paul’s Writings and the Role of the Sabbath
Several of Paul’s passages are frequently interpreted as dismissing the Sabbath, but examining each one shows that he does not nullify the Sabbath commandment:

Romans 14:5 speaks to flexibility regarding other days of observance but does not override the Sabbath. Paul’s goal was to address disputes among believers, not negate Yahuah’s commandment.

Ephesians 2:15 mentions the setting aside of the “law with its commands and regulations,” specifically referring to ceremonial laws, not moral commandments, which Yahusha affirmed as lasting (Matthew 5:17-19).

Even Yahshua said: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them.” – He is telling you right here that the ten Commandments, which was the Law, was not abolished.

Galatians 4:9-11 refers to believers observing “weak and miserable principles,” referring to man-made or pagan observances rather than God’s appointed Sabbaths.

      Yahusha’s Observance of the Sabbath
In Matthew 19:16-21, Yahusha responds to a question about eternal life with instructions to keep the commandments. His silence on the Sabbath here does not imply its abolition. Instead, Yahusha regularly observed the Sabbath (Luke 4:16) and identified Himself as “Lord of the Sabbath” (Mark 2:27-28). His teachings and example affirm the Sabbath’s ongoing importance, and His instruction to “pray that your flight be not in winter, neither on the Sabbath day” (Matthew 24:20) underscores its significance even in the future.

The Unchanging Nature of God’s Commandments
Yahuah’s character and His commandments are consistent. Malachi 3:6 states, “For I am the Lord, I change not,” and Hebrews 13:8 reaffirms, “Yahusha the Messiah is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” The Sabbath, sanctified at creation (Genesis 2:2-3), remains meaningful, reflecting Yahuah’s unchanging nature.

      In Summary:
The Sabbath remains integral to the commandments kept by the saints in Revelation, serving as a mark of those set apart by Yahuah.

Paul’s writings, in context, uphold the Sabbath principles and caution against judgment over how these holy times are observed.
Yahusha observed and honored the Sabbath as “Lord of the Sabbath” and never indicated its end.

Yahuah’s commandments and character are unchanging, and the Sabbath continues as a symbol of sanctification and obedience.
The Sabbath commandment is an enduring sign of allegiance to Yahuah, made for man (Mark 2:27) and observed by Yahusha and the apostles. Observing it aligns with faithfulness to Yahuah’s timeless principles, pointing us toward His ultimate rest and redemption.

    3. Thank you for the insightful and detailed comment.

If I may add a simple man’s summary.

God did away with the old system that was made for Adam-1. He brought in a whole new creation Adam-2. Old things are passed away, behold ALL things are made new. Simplicity verses complexity

The fallen nature (sin nature) of man desires a way (law, system, method, work, etc.) that can show HE is capable of spiritual ‘success’. – We want to be like God. We are TOTALLY incapable! …. Enter God’s Grace (unmerited favor) to provide all that is needed to recreate man once again in Cristos. The old man dies and the new man is born. Simple!

(2 Corinthians 11:3 YLT) “and I fear, lest, as the serpent did beguile Eve in his subtilty, so your minds may be corrupted from the SIMPLICITY that is in the Christ;” :

  2. Excellent presentation but how difficult it is for the newbies to be working in todays world and to keep the Sabbath. In these difficult times it is truly a test to obey God or not.

    1. I did it. I had to sacrifice my Job, but He has watched over me the entire way. He allowed me to change roles which let me have the Sabbath day off and also allowed me to change my Job and take one which had total freedom to switch days as I needed.

It is not difficult to do. Of course we all worry about an income to survive in this world. It is more about putting your trust in Him that He will provide. Do you trust Him?

Around 10 years ago I too was in the same boat many others find themselves currently in. This scripture was important to me at that time:

      Matthew 7:7-11
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? 11 If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

      Yahuwah Bless.

      1. That is such a silly thing to say. It’s denying what he said:

The ten commandments. Read the fourth one.

“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of Yah thy Elohim. In it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days Yah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore Yah blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”
        ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭20‬:‭8‬-‭11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In Revelation you have a small group of people who are still keeping his commandments.

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of Elohim and the faith of Yahshua.”

      2. NEW Testament (contract) The”old” has been fullfilled by Messiah. All things have become new.

A new law of Faith (a gift from Him) and Grace (unmerited favor) We live in His will by His presence in us.

If you choose to live by Law you fall from Grace – Paul to believers in Galatians.

      3. Exactly! Out of response to Him, not out of Law. E still are drawn to sin by the fallen flesh (the old man) just as Paul speaks of in his battle with doing what is right. The battle is the same but the answer is new, perfect and complete. It is finished!  Now that Christ fullfilled the law we now live under Grace.  It of important NOT to teach believers to step back UNDER Law. To do so is a sin as they fall from Grace….. Galatians, Romans Ephesians. We now live under a new “contract” the old had passed away (for those called to Yeshua) and all things have become new. Law is still of value to those who are lost but those in Christ have been freed from sin, death and Law. We are now under the Grace of Christ. We no longer are under the tutor of law (Hebrews).

All Glory be to God the Father!

        All Victory is His!
